About Shodo Canada
Shodo Canada is dedicated to furthering the practice of Japanese Calligraphy and bringing it to a global community to experience and share the beauty and skill of this ancient artform. The organization was founded in conjunction with the first Annual Japanese Calligraphy Competition in Canada in 2008 under the guidance of its director, Sensei Noriko Maeda.
Each year Shodo Canada organizes the Annual Japanese Calligraphy Competition in Canada, and exhibits the winning entries in November at the Japanese Canadian Cultural Center (JCCC) in Toronto. The event draws an audience and participation from across the nation. It showcases the talents of an immensely passionate community of students in the art, many of whom study Shodo with Maeda Sensei in a series of classes and workshops at the JCCC and other venues.
